History of Tissot Watches

Posted by: marvinhkolp1234 on: February 4, 2010

Tissot, a Swiss watch company, was established in the year 1853. Charles-Félicien Tissot with his son Charles-Emile set the foundation of this prominent business in the city of Le Locle. Buoyed by an extremely pioneering spirit and a forceful drive for mechanical craft, these two initiators brought in to the watchmaker’s trade a sturdy and skilled company.

All the way through the existence of the Tissot Company, the firm has forever fascinated the thoughts of people across the globe. Right from the very inception, the company possessed technicians and engineers, contributing thoroughly in the growth and development of new innovative watch models. Led by a strong technical team, it incidentally went on to become the first producer of the antimagnetic watch. It also holds the glorious record of being the first to produce plastic watch, the “Rock Watch”, the “Wood Watch” and “T-touch”.

Along with the production of some exemplified “first of its kind watches”, the Tissot Company also has its presence felt in the history of sports. It got its share of fame by participating vehemently in some major sports events: linked with Davis Cup in 1957 as the timekeeper and also took part at the downhill skiing in Switzerland in the 1938. At present, Tissot Company is the authorized timekeeper for various sporting galas: road biking, circuit racing, cycling, ice hockey and fencing. All these sporting affairs call for supreme dependability and correctness; they signify the meticulousness, significance and excellence of the Tissot Company. The company has rejoiced 150th anniversary of its esteemed institution in the year 2003. The Tissot brand, without any doubt, is not only one of world’s most admired ones but also one of the most sought after brands in Switzerland itself.

From the year 1985, the Tissot Company has been attached with the Swatch Group. From the same period onwards, it has been characterized by a networked system of merchants in 140 countries all around the world. Since all Tissot watches are fashioned in Switzerland itself, which facilitates the company to make use of the “Swiss Made” brand. The Company tenders a broad array of products that will catch the attention of both admirers of a pleasant design and enthusiasts of watchmaker’s technology.

In the recent years, the company has transformed itself into a more popular brand than ever. It could well be attributed to its “T-Touch,” expertise. In this unique range of watches, a number of new watches encompass “touch-sensitive navy faces” and comprise compasses, barometers, altimeters and thermometers. Same range of watches has further provided it a boost by featuring in some movies: as in The Cradle of Life and Mr. & Mrs. Smith.

Those who get gratification by having fine quality watches, admire these traits in Tissot watches. By and large, it is rated as the foremost watch brand that presents high class watches at mid price range. Tissot is on its way to take their sports sponsorship to a towering height by becoming the official timekeeper and partner of some grand sporting events like Olympics and other adventure sports. By sponsoring some big names in the sporting arena, it has already created a niche for itself that cannot be easily taken over by its rivals in the near future.

Where Do Your Cultured Pearls Come From?

Posted by: marvinhkolp1234 on: February 4, 2010

Origin of Cultured Pearls

Kokichi Mikimoto, son of a Japanese noodle vendor, single-handedly changed the pearl landscape forever by discovering the best way to produce them artificially. He and his wife struggled in the 1890’s to learn the best materials and methods for nucleating (implanting) oysters, disregarding the ridicule of Japan’s pearl experts. In 1908 he patented the world’s first cultured round pearl.

However, naturals were the most desired gem in the years between WWI and the stock market crash, and women bought all the natural pearls they could afford. The stock market crash and the subsequent pearl crash devalued the high prices of naturals (sound familiar?). Naturals never regained their market share. WWII throttled pearl production, creating huge demand for cultured pearls in the postwar prosperity years.

At its height Mikimoto Company had more than 12 million oysters producing 75% of the world’s cultured pearls. The Mikimoto name has been synonymous with very high quality.

The company found that the best luster and appearance occur at.35 millimeters of nacre, and Mikimoto pearls are thicker, since they were left longer in the oyster. The more luster, the higher the value. Perfect round shapes are more valuable than oval or irregular shapes.

BIWA Pearls

Around 1935 pearl experts found that a pearl will form around a piece of soft tissue introduced from another mollusk. These pearls have no artificial nucleus inside. The resulting pearl has an unpredictable flat, pointed, or button-shaped appearance. Coin pearls are also the result of this process. Their luster is excellent. They were first cultured in Lake Biwa in Japan. The name “biwa” indicates the absence of an artificial nucleus.

Silver and Gold Disney Coins Combine Two Forms of Collectibles

Posted by: marvinhkolp1234 on: February 4, 2010

The line of Disney precious metal coins has sporadic additions, with some entire sets being released at one time, single coins at other times, and periods where none at all appear. While these combine the collectability of both collectible coins and all things Disney, those coins of pewter or metals other than those considered precious have little collecting appeal.

Disney coins are produced by the Rarity Mint, which is itself a mystery. This author believes it is a part of Disney, or perhaps an independent mint producing under the name Rarity Mint if the product is for Disney. This makes little difference, since these coins are highly sought after, regardless of their origin.

Disney produces a few gold coins, but most of the collectible coins are silver. Some issues, albeit a small number compared to the total variety of coins produced, have a gilded variety. This is true of the five coins that depicted the five parks, each showing a different Disney castle.

Disney silver coins can come in sets, such as the Fantasia set and the Disney Around the World set. These coins are collectable as individual pieces, as well as sets.

Most silver and gold Disney coins come with a numbered certificate of authenticity. Obviously, if more were made the value is lower. The Snow White series suffers from having been produced in great quantity. However, it appears two sets of the different sizes were produced, the nine coin sets and the eleven coin sets. The Witch and the Hunter are harder to find, so they might bring a higher value.

Disney has produced a variety of coin sizes. The silver Mickey Mouse’s sixtieth birthday coin comes as small as one-tenth of an ounce mounted on a card, a particularly small silver coin. Several issues come in the one-half Troy ounce size, and a few come in the five Troy ounce size. The Lion King comes in a size between one-half and one Troy ounce.

Not all coins are what they appear. Disney coins plated with silver and gold do exist. Look for the 0.999 fine silver inscription on the coin.

For coin information check http://blackspanielgallery.8m.com and learn more about coins. Black Spaniel Gallery provides both coins and coin information.

Disneyana convention coins also depict Disney characters and themes. These are also collectible. However, they are released only to members of the club, and must be purchased in the secondary market by others.

Deep Diving – A Dangerously Fulfilling Challenge

Posted by: marvinhkolp1234 on: February 3, 2010

Deep diving is probably one of the most challenging underwater sports. Though only a few endeavored to pursue this extreme sport, deep diving remains as an enticing activity for scuba divers looking out for an opportunity to test their skills and discover the limits of their capabilities. Diving underwater depths of 100 feet for recreational diving or 200 feet for technical diving requires a lot of discipline, technical know-how and solid scuba diving experience. The greatest reward of deep diving involves the sense of pride felt by the diver upon reaching the deepest unknowns of the sea.

Training involved in Deep Diving.

It takes sound physical fitness and mental discipline to take part and triumph in a deep diving challenge. Being perceptive of the limits of your endurance will also help enhance your readiness to engage in this extreme sport. Since deep diving is a form of technical diving, the training course also involves the use of specialized scuba gear and equipment, the conduct of decompression stops upon ascent and dealing with low visibility circumstances as well.

Physiological Effects of Deep Diving

Deep diving may push the limits of a diver’s physical and mental endurance, though its risks to human health can be reduced if proper scuba equipment use is observed while sticking to the cruise of ‘no decompression’ zones. If staying too deep or too long at a particular depth than the recreational limits would allow, the diver may experience nitrogen narcosis – wherein a certain sense of ‘high’ is bound to be experienced. This would eventually lead to a feeling of numbness and mental impairment – making the diver incapable of performing calculated and sound decisions. Another life-threatening situation confounding deep diving is decompression sickness. A diver must not ascend abruptly to give time for the inert gases to escape the body. This is where the principle of making decompression stops comes in handy. Nonetheless, a seasoned diver will be able to balance efficiently decompression stop times versus the level of compressed air available in the cylinder tank.

Scuba Equipment to Use.

It is a prerequisite in deep dives to carry larger volumes of gas reserves that is accomplished through the conveyance of a second diving cylinder–along with an Extra Air Source and a pony bottle. The device is typically outfitted with a flexible swivel mouthpiece and easily attaches to the buoyancy compensator. To dispense with the need of back up air reserves, rebreathers can also be used. Said device supports efficient air management by recycling the air expelled by the diver and utilizing the same for breathing. Use of a trimix is a preferable option to other gas mixtures since it prevents the occurrence of nitrogen narcosis. Decompression buoys are also essentials that would help a deep diver find his way back to the boat.

Tall Women’s Clothing Trends for Fall

Posted by: marvinhkolp1234 on: February 3, 2010

As a tall woman, I have struggled my whole life with fashion trends. Many of the fads look ridiculous on my tall stature. However, I love to look trendy without looking like I have tried too hard. Here are some of the current fashion trends for fall that I can incorporate to look great with my height.

1. Grey is the new black of the season. Grey pants, grey tall jeans or a grey shirt are the foundation pieces for any tall women’s fall wardrobe.

2. Texture is really hot this season. Get some large handbags and large purses with lots of texture. Some of my favorites are the new quilted handbags in bold colors, animal printed bags and belts and shiny items. Play up your accessories with lots of texture, but remember to keep the patterns big to balance out your tall proportions.

3. There are many women’s tall jeans on the market this fall. Two of the hottest trends are straight leg tall jeans and wide leg tall jeans. They look hot on just about any figure- whether you are tall and thin or a little on the heavy side. If you get these jeans in gray, you will be a “Tall Fashionista”.

4. Bold graphic prints are still in style for fall, which is great news for tall women. Graphic prints can be found everywhere and most of them are in large patterns. Large patterns are key, as they look great on tall women. Small patterns will make you look out of balance, so avoid them.

This fall, tall women have lots of great tall clothing options that will work great with our tall statures.

Fashion Beaded Bracelets – Inexpensive Gift Giving

Posted by: marvinhkolp1234 on: February 3, 2010

Making fashion beaded bracelets, necklaces and other jewelry pieces have become very popular over the past few years. From young to old, making beaded jewelry is fun, unique, and is a way to show off your creativity.

It is a great way to find a hobby that you can do with family and friends, allowing everyone’s imagination to go wild. Making fashion beaded bracelets, you will need to purchase the proper tools and supplies to create fashionable jewelry.

Most all craft stores will carry the tools that are needed to make the jewelry. They will also have an assortment of different beads that will be needed. The array of colors and shapes will be overwhelming at deciding on what to purchase.

If it is your first time at making fashion beaded bracelets, it is best to just try to stick with the less expensive beads when you are starting out. The sales people in these craft stores are enthusiastic about crafts, so always feel free to ask questions, because they can give you good advice.

When you are first starting out making fashion beaded bracelets, its always best to just purchase the basic tools. If your interest grows more for beading, you can always add to your collection. You will need the basics of wire cutters, a pair of craft scissors and jewelry pliers.

These are the tools that you will need to start out with for jewelry making. When you have decided on your beads, you then will have to make a decision on the material that will be used to string your beads together.

One of the best materials to start with, is elastic or stretch string. All that is needed to make the bracelet is to knot the one end of the string, and slip the beads on to the string, and then knot the other end.

You might have to place a small dab of glue at the knot for extra security of the beads. You can also use bendable wire, if you want your bracelet to be sturdier and flexible. A solid bracelet, you will need just regular wire to give more of a chain effect.

To fasten fashion beaded bracelets together, you can either tie the ends together or purchase a clasp. The clasp is much more stronger and gives a better finish to the bracelet. There are different clasps that you can purchase, some are more expensive then others.

A toggle clasp is very attractive, but can be a bit pricier to purchase. When it comes to making fashion beaded bracelets, you can use your imagination and make whatever style and design that you prefer.

Jewelry making can become very addictive, making this a hobby that you can spend hours at enjoying. It is a great way to give a beaded bracelet as a gift that comes from the heart and is inexpensive to make.

Everyone loves a gift that you have taken the time to make and have used your own creativity with the person in mind that you will be giving it to.

Men’s Cartier Watches

Posted by: marvinhkolp1234 on: February 2, 2010

Brought to life by one of the oldest jewelers in the world, Men’s Cartier watches offer a signature style that has lasted more than 100 years. They bear witness to Cartier’s mastery of precious metals and rare jewels. Cartier watches exhibit the expertise of its makers in the fine art of design and superb craftsmanship. And they come inspired by the vast civilizations of the world; the mark of a highly creative, decidedly brilliant jeweler. That is what sets Cartier watches apart, and it’s the reason why there are so few people on Earth who wouldn’t recognize the name.

Shortly before the public fascination with Cartier began, it was a Parisian brand that only an elite group of people knew about. In 1853, six years after acquiring the jewelry workshop of his master, Louis-Francois Cartier had grown the organization to a size that could cater to a private clientele. As prosperity reigned for Louis, he was proud to open a shop on 9 boulevard des Italiens, in 1859. With his two brothers, Pierre and Jacques, Louis then began to travel the world. From India to Russia, the Persian Gulf to the United States, they saw it all and drew inspiration from each culture that they visited, making Cartier watches and jewelry a favorite of the royal courts of Europe. It wasn’t long before the brand achieved world fame for its exotic creations, the ingenuity of which lingers in Cartier watches today.

The Tortue line of Men’s Cartier watches is one such model that continues to be seen, originally featuring a unique panther spot motif. Another enduring style of Cartier watches is the Santos, created in 1904. It was designed for Louis’ friend Santos-Dumont, the Brazilian Aviator, and became a huge success that lead to several styles still in production. And, the Cartier Tank watch of 1912, a model that was inspired by British tanks from World War I, remains highly recognizable among dress watch enthusiasts and collectors alike.

The history of Cartier reveals an intuitive style that will seemingly last forever. As the brand enjoys favor with royalty and celebrities, catering to their every whim in both jewelry and in watches, the creativity and resourcefulness that goes into every piece resonates with the general public. Cartier watches come in a variety of designs and price points that are accessible to the masses, but they all exhibit a high level class that unifies the brand and its wearers. It’s a characteristic that is unique to Cartier, and should make even the most unassuming wearers proud.

How Scuba Regulators Work

Posted by: marvinhkolp1234 on: February 2, 2010

Scuba regulators reduce the air pressure from the tank to ambient pressure to allow us to breathe underwater. The regulator is in two stages; the first reduces the tank pressure to an intermediate pressure; the second stage, which is usually incorporated into the mouthpiece in modern recreational scuba equipment, reduces it further so that we can breathe at ambient pressure.

Scuba regulators provide air on demand; that is to say that when the diver breathes in the demand valve is opened to provide air and when the diver exhales the air demand valve is closed and the stale air is vented into the water.

First stage regulator

The first stage regulator attaches directly to the scuba tank. The standard connector is an A-clamp, which fits over the valve at the top of the tank and is fastened by tightening a yoke screw, although some European divers use a DIN connector. DIN provides a more secure fastening by screwing directly into the tank valve and can be used with higher cylinder pressures than the A-clamp, but divers with DIN regulators can use a converter to attach their equipment to a US style scuba tank.

It is not only the connector type that can vary though; the mechanism to detect pressure changes can either use a piston, upon which external water pressure acts, or a flexible diaphragm attached to a push rod. Both types of regulator can be either balanced or unbalanced, with the former able to compensate for changes in cylinder pressure and therefore have a larger opening with which to deliver more air.

Finally, some first stage regulators are environmentally sealed; that is to say, rather then the water acting on the mechanism directly, it acts upon a fluid that transmits the pressure to the piston or diaphragm. The advantages of this are that it reduces the risk of internal corrosion or sediment build up inside the first stage as well as providing thermal insulation to the mechanism; this is important in low temperatures to prevent the regulator from freezing up.

The second stage

The second stage regulator is attached to the first stage by a hose that is usually worn over the right shoulder. It consists of a diaphragm and purge valve at the front, the mouthpiece top rear and exhaust bottom rear.

As with the first stage there are different types of second stage scuba regulators – the most common is the downstream valve, where a diaphragm connected to a lever opens or closes a one-way valve. In the other option the lever opens a pilot valve, which in turn opens the main valve, a more complicated design that provides greater airflow for less effort. The greater complexity of the latter makes them both more expensive and harder to maintain.

Jilbere Flat Iron Reviews

Posted by: marvinhkolp1234 on: February 2, 2010

No matter what your hair type, there’s a Jilbere flat iron that will deliver salon-perfect results each and every time. What follows is a review of the flat irons on offer from the high-end brand.

The Jilbere Ceramic Pro 1″ Flat Iron is going to be the one that will best be suited for most hair types. The ceramic used in the plates is made using a 3-stage process. This entails that the ceramic is sand-blasted to ensure a smooth, flawless surface; is degreased to remove any foreign particles that would degrade the performance of the ceramic; and a neutralizing and rinsing process that helps to balance the negative ion charge and ensure the cleanest possible surface.

The overall look and feel of the straightener is very classy and the feature you get and the best you can get. However, if there was one feature that stands out for me, it has to be the 25 heat settings. Most other high-end brands like Infrashine and T3 come with about five heat settings. With 25 different setting you can really fine tune the temperature to best suit your hair.

The Jilbere de Paris Definition series with 1 1/2″ plates offers the same features as the 1″ but the extra width of the plates would make it a better choice if your hair is coarse of very thick.

Wet to dry flat irons are becoming increasingly popular. It’s not surprising as they do away with the need of first having to blow-dry hair. Not only does it make straightening your hair and easy, one-step operation, it also helps to reduce heat damage.

The Jilbere wet-to-dry flat iron is a very good hair styler. It’s light and easy to use and does a great job. However, if you do want a wet 2 dry straightener you should also take a look at the T3 wet to dry flat iron, which in my opinion is a slightly better tool.

Of all the models currently available, my personal recommendation would be the Jilbere Nano Tech Digital. This is one of the best straighteners currently available. When you first see it you know it’s an excellent appliance. Its good looks are backed up by features and technology. The controls are among the best of any flat iron; the digital controls and temperature settings really do help you to get perfect results. You can set the temperature to your exact requirements and the LED display lets you know when it reaches the temperature setting of your choice.

Reviews of Jilbere flat iron are overwhelmingly positive. But, if you are seriously thinking of getting yourself one, then I would recommend the Nano Tech Digital; it really is a professional studio hair styler.
